Contents (Review by Deathspark)

38th album, and I’m getting into trance. This album was requested by someone, but can’t remember who. As usual, according to him/her, this was kind of a priority? Never mind, let’s just get on with it. I have no idea what to expect as the artist’s name is actual “Junk” along with the conveniently named album, Contents. Anyway, without further ado, let’s see what it has to offer. I better not confuse Junk with Junky because they are two COMPLETELY DIFFERENT artists.

Album: Contents
Genre: Electronica/Trance

Tracks: 11 Tracks
Song Highlight:

The intro is also conveniently named intro [Track 1] as well, thank you very much I guess. As an intro to a trance album, it somehow felt like it was an introduction to see the ocean waves or something. Honestly, I liked it. In fact, imagine sitting at the beach at night with  a star filled sky, reflecting down upon the ocean like a starry night show.

What I like

One Piece (Track 2) is quite a wonder. I thought I was in for trance, but no, I was wrong. It’s full of power, like an electronica song. Is this truly trance? It feels like an energetic one. Yes, there is such thing as energetic trance, but not to this level. What I liked was how it felt similar to the intro. With the same feeling, but you can see ripples on the ocean as the beats come and go. Miku isn’t singing a lot, but that’s alright because the song itself doesn’t disappoint. Miku’s voice is slightly muffled, but the song itself isn’t. The song’s speed isn’t as slow as trance, so I can safely say, this is no longer trance.

What I don’t like

I must say, the songs were impactful in the beginning, like “Wow this song is good!”, but after that, it sort of didn’t keep up for some reason. I’m talking about discolab (Track 3), Cyanotype (Track 4), Heart Signal (Track 5) and Scarlet Answer (Track 6).

After that, most of the songs are just plain trance, and you know me, not a huge fan of trance. Yeah sure, it feels good to listen for a while, but since trance music usually drags on, the song can get a little boring for me. However, that does not mean they are bad.

Conclusion

A good album to start with if you do wish to get some trance music or a little of electronica. Be warned however, if you need songs that can keep you awake, this album is really good at the beginning, but not afterwards.

Should you buy this album? : Perhaps (60%)
Will Deathspark buy this album? : Maybe not… (20%)

Well, considering the fact that I only liked one song, I don’t think I will love the album a lot. However, this artist seemed to have potential to me. I’ll keep an eye on this artist in the future.
