Favorite Looong Vocaloid Songs by TheImmortalHottentot

Hello MikuDB! 2-6 minute songs are what we’re all familiar and comfortable with. It’s a good length for our attention spans and standard song structure, but sometimes it’s nice to sit down with a nice long composition that really takes you away. I’m talking about looong songs. 10 minutes and over probably counts as long, but I’m looking to take us into 25 minutes and beyond! So strap in, cause it’ll take you a while to listen through these!

Eternal Journey -Final Frontier- (18:00) by XenonP

As the finale of XenonP’s album FRONTIER -Into Eternal Space-, this 18-minute song is a great conclusion to the power metal space epic. It moves between calm melodies, chugging, and Xenon’s signature shredding, keeping you on your toes. There’s obviously some kind of story that goes with this song (and probably the whole album), but sadly, I can’t find translated lyrics. If you know them, send them my way!

Faith (25:13) by MaestroP

Breaking the 25-minute mark, we have MaestroP’s prog rock ballad “Faith.” The song features Hiyama Kiyoteru, a male Vocaloid who I had hardly heard of, let alone heard in a song, before this. I really like the irregular riffs, changing pace, and song structure in this one (not surprising, since I love prog). We even get some metal-like parts throughout, and I really like the riff after the first minute. Again, there’s probably a story here, but I can’t find any lyrics, which I would love to have.

Come La Divina Commedia -神曲- (29:20) by XenonP

Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a stream for this song, but I thought it was worth mentioning anyway. Much like “Eternal Journey,” this 30-minute power metal song displays the different sounds of Xenon’s music, perhaps better than the space epic, and tops off the album Divine. It also includes a lot of talking. A lot. But, due to a lack of lyrics, I can’t say what it’s all about, once again. Nonetheless, it’s an epic song that moves seamlessly between styles and delivers some awesome pieces.

Imperfect Quarters (31:17) by Sime Saba Twisters

 One of my all-time favorite songs, “Imperfect Quarters” was released as eight different parts on an album, but, personally, I always listen to the entire thing as one song. This progressive rock/metal composition includes Kasane Teto, Hatsune Miku, Sekka Yufu, and Namine Ritsu. Each of their respective parts has it’s own style, which sweeps you away to its own world, and they come together at the end for a grand finale. The composition of this song never fails to engross and excite me, no matter how many times I’ve listened to it.

Song of Beginnings, End of Songs (태초의 노래, 노래의 종말) (66:06) by Sangnoksu/ProgreseeU

Finally, we break the 1-hour mark with Sangnoksu’s intense orchestral composition. The composition is in Korean, and uses the bilingual Vocaloid SeeU, something you don’t hear everyday. But the language and voice are certainly not the surprising parts of this song; it is an eclectic powerhouse of jarring movements, combining orchestra, opera, and heavy metal together with church organs, choirs, screaming, and speech samples. The opera vocals are incredibly lifelike, and every atonal chord and pounding drum contributes to the powerful intensity of the apocalyptic theme. This one actually has translated lyrics, and they don’t disappoint, linked here. The entire arrangement is a trip that’s well worth the time.
