Nude – 明太Rocker (Demo’s review)

– This Album Has a Parental Advisory –

Today is a full album review. So get your Rock pants on, because you’re going to be crushed by paper- no, Nude is an album meant for those ready to headbang their way from beginning to end. I have to admit that I am a metalhead, but I like me some soft rock at least once a day. Vocaloid and Metal just go good together when done correctly.

Name: Nude

Producer: MentaiRocker

Release Date: 9/5/2010

Vocaloid: Megurine Luka

Overview:

When I first heard the album Nude, my first song listening was Hot Milk- felt a little dirty. Of course, I didn’t know the lyrics, but once I seen the Parental Advisory, I knew it must have said something bad. A naughty Luka is kinda hot. Unfortunately, I have no idea what the lyrics say. This album has some of Luka’s screams and growls, however, not too much to throw off people who don’t like that kind of music. For those who like this kind of music, the power and fluency gives a few spine tingles here and there. Nothing to dance to exactly, but it does require a bunch of headbangs on certain songs.

Emotion Rating: Look under the song titles in the “Detailed Review” to see Mr. Opinion Face’s emotion on the song. Plus, if there is a “Sawbat Approved” Icon, the song is top notch as mine and Sawbat’s favorite of the album- we have the same tastes. 1 is a horrible rating, 10 is an explosion of a thousand tuna’s, and Sawbat’s Approval is Luka’s most epic concert. Wonder if Luka will ever have a concert with flying tuna everywhere… Nice idea, if no one gets slapped. I know how bad that hurts, but it was catfish, not a tuna. FISH!!!

9-10: (‿⋂) – Love It!

7-8: (••) – Good!

5-6: (•~•) – Meh!

3-4: (••) – Disappointment!

1-2: (﹏╥) – It Sucks!

Detail Review:

1) Just Close Your Eyes

Emotion: (‿⋂) – Love It!

– This song has some power to it right from the beginning. Luka screams first hand, then seeps into a haunting verse. During the bridge, Luka does some more screaming, but I don’t think she is actually pronouncing anything. Just Close Your Eyes is a powerful start to Nude, and has a powerful end as well.

2) Wild Joker

Emotion: (••) – Good!

Wild Joker is just that, a Wild Joker. Erratic and different from the rest of the songs. If it wasn’t for the frantic nature of this certain song, I would call it forgettable. But I guess that the Joker of the album is actually a good call.

3) Perfect Liar

Emotion: (‿⋂) – Love It!

– Ever heard Luka take in a deep breath? More than likely, you have if you are a Luka fan, whether you realize it or not. She does that a number of times- it also has a memorable chorus. It gets intense during the middle of the song. Not to mention, the transition to the next song is spot on.

4) Hot Milk

Sawbat Approved

– This one reminds me of the early 90’s metal. Sawbat has some insights:

I feel that the awesomeness is in a tune with the authentic feel… I’m done!

Not much of a talker is he? Let me fill you in on what he is saying. This song has good rhythm and is a bit slow, but it can get a little fast during the chorus. The guitar riff is naturally unsweetened- like cocoa powder. Put that in Hot Milk and you have Hot Chocolate Milk… Man, I hope I didn’t make a pun off of something dirty. I would like to know about it if I did.

5) New Romancer

Emotion: (‿⋂) – Love It!

– To me, has the best Intro in the album. With a moderately hard keyboard riff, screamo sound effects, and a bass that can engulf the drumbeat and amplify it, the whole song comes together like a screamo sandwich. It’s my second favorite from the album.

6) Masquerade

Emotion: (••) – Good!

Got an upbeat in this one with a little jazz feel to it. Pretty much keeps up the tempo throughout the whole song until the piano break. Probably my least favorite of the album, but it is still a good song.

7) SCANDAL

Emotion: (••) – Good!

I guess this takes place in front of live people, because we got cheering in this song. SCANDAL sounds a lot like Wild Joker a bit at the beginning. More J-pop than Metal really, but it is a very different experience having a live show on the album. I wonder if it’s actually live or not!

8) Roses for the Queen

Emotion: (‿⋂) – Love It!

– And so enters the lucid piano. I love the piano; can’t play it, but love it. Roses for the Queen is a perfect emotional mix of haunting vocals and music. This song has a guitar solo that is soft rather than powerful, but it is a lovely decision on the producer’s part.

9) Bullet for Prisoner

Emotion: (‿⋂) – Love It!

– Slow to build up, yet has an air of brilliance in the bass line during the verse. Okay, I know what I said about dancing… this song is enough to dance to, at least a little. Up through the song, the guitar gets a power-up and beefs the performance through the roof. Luka’s voice has a little more strength in this song.

10) Diamond Rain

Emotion: (‿⋂) – Love It!

– This is the lightest/softest song in the album. He really did capture the farewell feeling with this final song. It would have been even nicer with a Miku harmony, but that may be too much icing on a cake that doesn’t really need it.

Quickie Review:

9 out of 10

Emotion: (‿⋂) – Love It!

  1. Well written and you’ve got my commendations for aditionaly providing purchase options for the album.
Luv the album myself, as I do mostly all of the “heavier”-kind of vocaloid music, so it’s nice to see this one with a review. 😀

    • Hey thanks, this is just how I review, having experience in e-commerce marketing (writing articles for money) really does come in handy for me and the folks that read my posts. Everyone wins!
I also love powerful Vocaloid songs. Either that or so soft that it lulls me to sleep. I hope I can keep up the process and finding a perfect album for every day I review.
