Hello MikuDB! Today I’d like to quickly talk about the Vocaloid Hall of Fame. You may or may not have already heard of this, but I only recently found out about it so I thought I’d share for anyone else who hasn’t.
The Hall of Fame is a list of Vocaloid videos that have obtained 100,000 views or more on Nico Nico. There is also a Hall of Legend for 1,000,000 or more views and a Hall of Myths for 10,000,000 or more views. The Vocaloid Wiki keeps track of these lists for non-Japanese speakers like me. I’ve included links to the lists above. It’s important to note that the lists are only for Nico Nico views and thus do not count views on YouTube, which would probably affect a number of videos.
As of the writing of this article, only 4 videos are in the Hall of Myths: “Senbonzakura”, “Matryoshka”, “Melt”, and “Miku Miku ni Shite Ageru”. It’s not very surprising to see these, but I’m a little surprised there aren’t a few more, like a wowaka song or something.
Looking over the Hall of Legend, you obviously see a lot of classics, but there are also a good number of more recent songs from artists like KurageP, Nayutan Alien, MARETU, and GigaP. Not long ago, I heard a bit of pessimism here and there about the state of Vocaloid (possibly spurred by Sand Planet), and I think this is a solid point against that.
On a different note: Out of all of Kikuo’s popular songs, I was surprised to see “Ten Sho Sho Ten Sho” in the Hall of Legend. Not that it isn’t an excellent song, but I would have guessed a number of others to be up there before it.
I can’t offer many observations about the Hall of Fame category simply because there are a ton of videos on it. According to the wiki, they don’t even have an article for every Hall of Fame video (and even a few of the Hall of Legend). At any rate, I thought these lists were an interesting thing to thumb through. They might even introduce you to some new tunes, which sounds silly when talking about a popularity list, but you haven’t heard everything… right?
As always, thanks for reading! Please share your thoughts and suggestions in the comments!
